Meet The Team
MARK & CATHY HOUSELANDER - Hearing Clinicians, Owners
In 2015, Mark and Cathy Houselander opened Hometown Hearing Centre in Cambridge, Ontario. Since then they have grown their hearing caring services to 18 locations across Southern Ontario. They often announce in advance when a new location is opening and when they are ready to take on new patients.
“We’re really focused on being more than just a hearing clinic,” said co-owner Mark Houselander. “We want people to know we are here to help them in a new world of social distancing, even mild forms of hearing loss can make it difficult especially when wearing a mask to communicate with our loved ones.”
He said the team works alongside other health care professionals such as chiropractors, physiotherapists, and pharmacists for a well-rounded health plan.
“When we’re dealing with our patients, a lot of people don’t realize or know that there’s a lot of other conditions or illnesses that are associated with hearing loss,” he said — referring to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or even dementia.
Cathy Houselander has been a hearing clinician for over 20 years with experience in testing for hearing loss and providing customized hearing solutions; including hearing aid fittings, ear molds, repairs and adjustments, and even counselling while supporting her patients throughout their hearing journey.
“Hearing loss is typically gradual,” She said. “In some cases, it can be sudden but what people don’t realize is for the most part it’s gradual and it doesn’t happen overnight.”
Often, Cathy said, people who visit them and have their hearing tested and decide to get hearing aids, can finally hear the higher frequency sounds, such as birds chirping, leaves rustling in the breeze, or even a turn signal in their car.
“Hearing aids will not fix your hearing loss, but they can significantly improve the quality of your interactions and communication with your loved ones,” Houselander said, “which can change your life.”
Cathy mentioned Hometown Hearing Centre has a certified team of highly qualified audiologists and hearing instrument specialists with the latest in technology, such as direct audio streaming to your hearing aids from your favorite Apple or Android devices. In addition, they offer industry-leading rechargeable hearing aids with a battery life of up to 30 hours of power on a single charge.
